Clovelly Maritime Festival

Clovelly is one of the most visited villages in Devon. Here, white-washed houses bedecked with flowers cling to the hillside and cobbled streets lead down to a beautiful harbour. It is surrounded by thick woods which shelter it and render the climate so mild that even tender plants flourish. Unusually, the village is privately owned and has been in the same family since 1738. Clovelly is a delight to explore, particularly out of season or late in the afternoon when the crowds have gone.

There are very few Clovelly cottages to rent through the main letting agencies, although they do have a good selection in this area of North Devon. Cottages4You have about 30 cottages nearby. Hoseasons have a dozen holiday cottages within five miles of Clovelly. Sykes Cottages have a handful of holiday homes within a similar distance of the village.

The annual Clovelly Maritime Festival takes place on Sunday 14th July. Centred around the harbour, this great day out of classic seaside entertainment is packed with attractions for all the family, including puppet shows, shanty singers, and other maritime-themed entertainment including storytelling with tales of mermaids, pirates and shipwrecks. In the morning, when the sea is in the harbour, visitors can explore the wonderful underwater world by snorkelling with The Marine Biological Association. There will also be seafood cookery demonstrations as well as fresh strawberry and cream teas available.
